I love making homemade meatballs, it's actually quite relaxing! I added some chili and bacon bits to mine so these are packed full of flavor. I also use ground beef and pork in my meatballs as I prefer the texture and flavor it adds.
Ingredients
200g minced pork
200g minced beef
3 tbsp crispy bacon bits (optional)
1 tsp chili flakes (if you want a spicy meatball)
30g fresh breadcrumbs
1 small onion finely diced
2 cloves garlic finely diced
1 heaped teaspoon fresh oregano / ½ tsp dried
1 heaped tsp fresh thyme chopped / ½ tsp dried
1 heaped tbsp basil chopped (optional)
3 large tbsp parmesan
1 large egg
Salt / pepper to season – good pinch of both!
Instructions
In a large bowl mix together all the ingredients for the meatballs
Just get your hands in there and squash it all together, season well
Start rolling out the meatballs with your hands, not too big, about a tablespoon each
Heat a couple of tablespoons of olive oil in a large frying pan, on a medium heat
Gently place the meatballs in the pan and cook them until they are browned all over
Make sure to turn them gently otherwise they could fall apart
Once they are browned, take the meatballs out and either pop them on a tray to continue cooking in the oven
Or pop them into a tomato sauce to finish cooking for another 15- 20 minutes
PS – The meat balls are very handy to make day before and just keep in the fridge! And they’re great for freezing for a rainy day
