Perfect Valentines appetizer to get your evening off to a great start. Fig and Parma Ham Hearts. It’s easy, looks so impressive and the fact it is a heart shape.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe fresh figs
  • 2 / 4 slices Parma ham
  • 250g puff pastry
  • 2tsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 80g goats cheese cut into 4
  • 1 egg beaten for glazing

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to gas 6 220 c
  2. Start by rolling out the puff pastry to ½ cm thick
  3. Cut 2 big heart shapes out of the pastry and place on a lightly floured baking tray
  4. With a knife draw a smaller heart inside the heart about 1 cm from the outer edge
  5. Place hearts on a baking tray
  6. Slice your fig’s into eight pieces each
  7. Crumble the goat’s cheese equally into the inner heart of the pastry
  8. Try and keep everything in the inner heart lines
  9. Place the figs on top of the goats cheese then sprinkle approx ½ tsp of brown sugar on each heart
  10. and 1 tsp of balsamic vinegar, then 1 tsp of olive oil over each heart
  11. Lastly brush the outer heart edges with egg and then pop into the oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown
  12. When they are cooked you can place them on top of a handful of salad leaves and then curl a slice of Parma ham in the centre and serve.
